But now, players are complaining that the game lacks updates and it didn’t bring anything new to its content. Comparing it to the constantly changing games of the same genre such as Fortnite and PUBG, Apex Legends falls short on providing the players with updated and new content on a regular basis. And on the same note, the executive producer of the game Drew McCoy explained that it won’t be changing anytime soon. Which means that the game wouldn’t receive any new or updated content every now and then. In a blog post, McCoy wrote, “Our long-term goal is to ensure Apex Legends always feels alive and thriving, with a focus on quality of content over novelty or speed of release. At the same time, we want to maintain our culture as a development team and avoid crunch that can quickly lead to burnout or worse.” It should be noted that, this development comes a day after Polygon’s report about the working conditions at the Fortnite developer’s studio, Epic. Here, the artists, programmers and new contract employees have been working intensely to keep up with the ever-changing game and bringing new content to the platform. In a statement, Epic said, “People are working very hard on Fortnite and other Epic efforts. Extreme situations such as 100-hour work weeks are incredibly rare, and in those instances, we seek to immediately remedy them to avoid recurrence.” This is the exact opposite of what we saw of Apex Legends who aren’t pushing new updates and aren’t seemingly interested in providing the players with new content.
The extreme overtime and overwork have always plagued the videogame industry. Well-known brands such as BioWare (owned by EA), Ubisoft and other game studios are constantly subjecting their employees to overtime too, which ultimately leads to crunch. Furthermore, Respawn still hopes to continue with Apex Legends and provide updates to its players, but not in the same way and at the same time intervals as its competitors. McCoy also said that the primary focus of the studio was to improve the issues of server performance and cheating. He said, “Rapid growth is a wonderful thing to achieve, and we’re thrilled with the response we’ve received since launch. However, that growth comes with some clear challenges, and we’ve hit a few bumps along the way, including missteps with our updates, not giving players enough visibility into future content, and not properly setting expectations on how we plan to support Apex Legends.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
