The leaked display shot of OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone showcases screen refresh rates with three different selection modes:
120Hz – For maximum smoothness but slight reduced battery life. 90Hz – For balanced smoothness and balanced battery life. 60Hz – Less smoothness but slightly extended battery life.
The leaked screen shot of what it claims to be OnePlus 8 Pro smartphone showed that the mode selected 120Hz. Moreover, a disclaimer stating “the higher the screen refresh rate, the smoother the experience” can also be in seen in the leaked image. However, there was no hint whether this will bring down the resolution below 1080pixel. Besides this, a forum post on OnePlus website talk about the development of its next-generation 120Hz Fluid Display. “The spirit of ‘Never Settle’ is not about specs alone. The smoothest smartphone display must also be able to deliver a superior visual quality and viewing comfort. We’re sure that OnePlus’s new 120Hz Fluid Display will be the best you’ll lay eyes on in 2020,” claims the post by Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus. “OnePlus‘s 120Hz Fluid Display also provides support for 10-bit colour, providing 1,024 shades of each primary colour and 1.07 billion possible colours. This is 64 times as many colours than are supported on mainstream smartphone devices, giving users fuller, more natural gradients when viewing content, and creators more confidence to accurately display the intended colour spectrum,” he added. If this comes true with the launch of OnePlus 8 Pro, the smartphone users could experience amazing smoothness while watching videos. The post on OnePlus Forum also revealed that the smartphone king used MEMC technology that uses “real-time algorithmic adjustments to insert additional frames to a video file, enabling something shot at 24 or 30fps to play at 60 or even 120fps.” However, we need to wait and see what impact OnePlus’s 120Hz Fluid Display will have on battery life of OnePlus 8 Pro.
