The company said on the microblogging website, “Now, you can preview IGTV videos in your feed. When there’s a new video from someone you follow, you can tap from your feed to watch the full video in IGTV.” And now, this has finally happened. If you accessed Instagram today, you would have seen a Story shared by the company that confirms today onwards, IGTV videos will be available for preview in users’ News Feed. In the Story, Instagram has mentioned that besides seeing previews of videos, users would also be able to browse for more videos of their interest from their News Feed itself.
We should mention that since IGTV was launched last year, Instagram has been doing a number of things to promote the platform among its users. Although it was first believed that Instagram would split IGTV into a new app altogether, that didn’t happen. Instead, Instagram added a button on top right of its main app from where users could directly access the video platform.
After that, the photo-sharing app started sending occasional notifications to users informing them about new videos that they may be interested in. And now, IGTV has been integrated with the main Instagram app even more closely as users will be able to see videos they are interested in on their News Feed itself.
It is worth noticing that IGTV was launched by Instagram to compete with Google‘s YouTube, which has been leading the segment since a very long time now. Being smartphone-centric, IGTV has a preference for vertical videos and allows content creators and influencers to upload videos that are up to 10 minutes long. However, accounts that are extremely popular can also add videos that are up to an hour long. When it was initially announced a month back that previews of IGTV videos will be available in News Feed, Instagram gave a statement to Variety saying, “With IGTV previews in feed, we’re making it even easier to discover and watch the latest video content from your favourite follows.”
