Speaking about the matter, an Instagram spokesperson said, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing their Instagram accounts. We are now fully recovered and apologize for the inconvenience.” However, the company did not speak about the cause or the extent of the Instagram outage. A number of users on Twitter talked about the problems that they faced on the photo-sharing app using the hashtag ‘#Instagram’. Most of them said that they had trouble accessing Instagram via mobile apps or even computers. Some complained that they couldn’t refresh the feed and some said that they couldn’t access DMs. Some PlayStation users also took to the microblogging website to talk about the issues they faced. The official Ask PlayStation Twitter account addressed their concern by posting a message that read, “We’re aware that some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN. Thank you for your patience as we investigate.” According to DownDetector.com, the outages were primarily present in Northern Europe and Britain. Some parts of the United States and Brazil also reported the same issues. Earlier this month, a number of web services including YouTube, Snapchat, Gmail, Nest and Discord suffered major outages. Users from various parts of the world claimed that they could not access any of these services for a few hours at a stretch. The root cause of this particular outage was said to be an issue with Google‘s cloud service that powers apps other than the technology giant’s own services.
This year itself, another major outage was faced by social media giant Facebook and its various services including Instagram, WhatsApp and even Oculus. All the apps and websites of the company were down for several hours across the globe before the social media giant managed to restore them. As a part of another outage this year, YouTube was down for more than an hour and a half before the company restored the service.
